- To provide daily historical tours of Block Island! Our island historians provide narrated tours that connect today’s island lifestyle with the past.
Tours generally begin and end at the ferry dock, but we can pick you up anywhere on the island and will drop you off anywhere by request. Many people opt to end the tour at a beach or restaurant.
Private tours are $90 for the first 4 people, and any person beyond that is an extra $10 per person. We also offer Group Tours with up to 10 travelers, which can be booked at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm Monday-Thursday. These tours vary in price depending on the number of guests who book, but due to ordinances by Block Island, group tours end up being a much more economical option!
Tours can be scheduled anytime, but we have group tours Monday-Thursday at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm that can offer a discounted price for individuals who don’t need or want a private tour.

History
In 1661, sixteen families from the Massachusetts Bay Colony settled on our island. By 1661, Block Island was a part of the colony of Rhode Island. But our history doesn’t start in 1661: Thousands of years ago, a glacier left rolling hills and ponds behind, forming what is now known as Block Island. Native Americans were the first inhabitants of Block Island as evidenced by remains that date back thousands of years, most notably the Manissean. Later, in 1524, The Island was named Claudia by explorer, Giovanni Verrazano and it came upon its current name by Dutch Navigator, Adriaen Block Island in 1614. 500 years later, Block Island is going strong with 900 year-round residents, 40 restaurants, and 17 miles of beaches to enjoy all summer long.
